Text Books & Note Books

Students must write their names in all books issued to them. It is essential the books be covered to save wear and tear. Each textbook must be returned to the teacher/librarian at the end of the course in good condition. Students are required to pay a fine to the accounts office covering damage to or loss of books. A replacement is issued only after the fine has been paid and a receipt obtained. Notebooks, workbooks and other textbooks can be bought from the bookstore.

The NAIS Library is a unique resource to the school community. It is the primary source of the reading material on a variety of subjects. In addition to its print media materials, the library has facilities for net-based resources and an on-line database of periodicals for student’s research.

These resources are available to students from Sunday to Thursday, between 8:00am to 2:30pm. Books are available for renewable periods. The Library charges Dhs. 2/= per day as overdue fines.

The school will not be held responsible for and loss or theft from lockers, or items left outside of lockers. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they have locked their books and materials safely inside their locker. In the case of damage to the locker, or loss of a key, the student will be charged a fine to replace the locker or lock as needed.

Phone Calls

Usage of mobile phones during the school day is forbidden, unless supervised by school staff. Students should not be contacting parents or family members during the school day from their mobile phones. The main office phone is to be used by students to contact family in the case of emergency. Parents should not be contacting students during the school day on their mobile phones, as the expectation is that students are not using their mobile phones during school hours unless it is for a class related task. Students will be called from class only in case of emergency, and they will be escorted to the main office where they may be picked up by a designated family contact.

The house system aims to promote friendly competition between students, which improves overall performance and engagement in school. The houses recognize achievement in sport, positive contributions to community life, the arts, and academic excellence. Trained House Captains assist in the day to day running of the respective houses. This in turn fosters a system of positive peer pressure. Each house is led by two House Captains, Grade Level Prefects, and Class Captains.

Additionally, North American International School has an American Style Student Council that consists of students elected by their peers. The Student Council consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Grade Level Class Representatives. The students run for office, give speeches to their peers, and then the school holds elections to vote for the positions.

This system helps prepare our students to be future leaders in their community, and encourages student engagement in the school, and school events. The Student Council plays an active role in organizing school activities and events, and in providing ideas for improvements within the school.

Student Council

NAIS pupils are divided into three Houses.
